Best hike close to Desert Hot Spring; hikes are short and easy and many are shaded. 

WHITEWATER CANYON PRESERVE

760 325 7222. Beautiful new park for hiking and picnicing at the site of the old Whitewater Trout Farm along the year-round river, adjoining the Pacific Crest Trail. Take the canyon north from the rock yard off the 10 at the Whitewater exit.


JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
760 367 5500 Take Hacienda back to Palm, go North, turn left on Pierson, then right on Indian to Route 62 North to the West or North entrance.
Or take route 10 east for 50 miles to South entrance and hike to the Palm Oasis.

Our favorite spot close to the Hacienda, perfect for secluded walks. Take Hacienda east, left on Dillon about15 miles, right on 1000 Palms, and look for the entrance on your right. Closed in the summer; no pets permitted.

A perennial Palm Springs attraction, the Tramway climbs from the desert floor to the top of Mt San Jacinto. From the summit take the trails into the pine forest and return to the excellent new restaurant.

right and follow the dirt road three miles straight to the Giant Rock.

PIPES CANYON
